2014 District Priority Grant Application Now Available

4/23/2013

The 2014 District Priority Grant application is now available. The District Priority Grant assists communities, schools, and non-profit organizations implement innovative waste reduction and recycling programs that significantly reduce the grantees= waste stream. The three priorities for 2014 are:

  1. Organics (yard trimmings and food scraps). Projects that improve a community’s yard trimmings or leaf collection programs, start on-site or off-site composting, or increase the diversion of food scraps in a cafeteria.
  2. Permanent recycling in public areas and schools.* These projects generally cover the costs to purchase permanent recycling containers to be placed in public areas such as parks or business districts.
  3. Reusing or recycling textiles. Textiles, clothing, rags, and shoes, make up 8.2% of the residential waste stream. Projects under this priority would find new and innovative ways to divert textiles from the waste stream such as incorporating textiles into a community clean up day.
The attached application contains more specific information. DPGRANTapplication2014

Applications are due on September 26, 2013. The District will make funding decisions by late November and funds will be available in early 2014. All grant projects must take place in 2014. The District made the application available earlier this year to accommodate the addition of schools and to give you more time to plan projects.
