PictureHolly Utrata-Halcomb, HCSWCD Administrator, presented featured guest and award recipient, Stacey Owen the News Director at Channel 5 News for their generous donations and Project Earth collaboration efforts.
Last week Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District hosted its 67th annual Meeting at the Paul Brown Stadium.

HCSWCD is a public organization committed to assisting local citizens to be stewards of our soil and water resources through education, technical assistance and leadership. Each year the district honors local professionals that go above and beyond to help the district with their commitment. The Outstanding Conservationist Awards recognize that the only way to achieve true conservation is through collaboration with other organizations, businesses and citizens.

The following individuals were recognized for their outstanding contributions:

Urban Conservation Award – This award is given to builders, and development projects that exemplify the best effort in erosion and sediment control; protecting our waterways and conserving our soil resources.

  • Mercy Health – West Hospital – Accepted by Larry Bagby
  • Fischer Homes – Accepted by Marc Avery
  • Turner Construction – Accepted by Phil Yama
Agriculture Conservation Partner – This award is given to partners and landowners that provide guidance or implement practices to conserve our agriculture lands and water resources.

  • John Williams III – NRCS, District Conservationist
Conservation Teacher of the Year – The recipient of this award has demonstrated a committed effort in creatively incorporating conservation education into their curriculum.

  • Daphne Horstmeier – Covedale School
Environmental Awareness Collaborator – The recipient of this award has participated in District public education programs, used resources to promote environmental quality, and provided opportunities to engage local volunteers in community involvement projects that improve soil and water quality.

  • Kimberlee Flamm – Springfield Township, Project, Event & Communications Coordinator
Outstanding Media Collaborator – This new award was given to WLWT – TV for their launching the “Project Earth” segment as part of their weekly news and for the associated website. WLWT-TV has also donated 296 ads to the Regional Storm Water Collaborative promoting conservation practices and environmental quality issues in our region.
