How to Plant a Pollinator Garden
Location
Determine where in your yard you want your pollinator garden. Does your yard receive full sunlight, or is it shady? Many native pollinator-friendly plants prefer partial to full sunlight.
Identify your soil
Is your soil sandy and well-drained, or is it heavy clay soil that retains water? Determining your soil type, will help you select which plants grow best in your soil conditions.
Choose your plants
Determine what plants you want for your pollinator garden. Native plants are ideal, because your local pollinators have adapted to feed on the nectar of native plants. Also consider when flowers will be in bloom. Not all native plants bloom at the same time. By including plants that bloom during spring, summer, and early fall, you'll attract a greater diversity of pollinators.
Many local nurseries or garden centers offer native plants.
