Fostering Sustainable Behavior
Seminar

Influence positive behavior change

The Seminar covers in-depth community-based social marketing, perfect for those new and familiar with this framework.

Dr. Doug McKenzie-Mohr will be delivering a community-based social marketing training in late June. This workshop will particularly interest agencies that promote waste reduction, energy and water efficiency, conservation, sustainable food consumption, watershed protection, invasive species control, electrification, modal transportation changes, and other sustainable actions. Community-based social marketing (CBSM) is a unique approach to fostering environmental behavioral changes and is now being utilized globally. For example, in the US, the EPA mandates that groundwater protection programs in several jurisdictions have to be delivered using CBSM. Similarly, the Department of Energy recommends that all residential energy efficiency programs be delivered using this framework.

The training provides a comprehensive introduction to community-based social marketing and how it is being applied worldwide to foster environmental behavior change. Those who attend the workshop will learn the five steps of community-based social marketing (selecting behaviors, identifying barriers, developing strategies, conducting pilots, and broad-scale implementation) and be exposed to numerous case studies illustrating its use.
Participants will receive an electronic copy of the third edition of his book “Fostering Sustainable Behavior” and a certificate of completing community-based social marketing training.
